Cosmetic Surgery- How To Get Those Mesmerizing Looks

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Do you agree that beauty is a mystery that falls short of our reach every single day? For most of us, ultimate aesthetic perfection remains a constant struggle, and we venture through life for the ultimate ‘fix’ that will turn us most beautiful.

Restore your natural beauty

While the term “cosmetic surgery” evokes fantasies about turning back the clock, it also rings images of famous faces gone badly. However, as a number of people are considering cosmetic surgery, the discipline continues to showcase latest advances in cosmetic medical practice.

There is nothing wrong with cosmetic surgery

Whether you are considering cosmetic surgery, want to learn about the latest inventions in cosmetic treatments, or are just simply interested about looking as gorgeous as you can be, you have a professional trained surgeon to guide you through your curiosity. These cosmetic surgeons, are not only qualified doctors bound by their code of practice, they have been assessed in the procedures they perform and how to provide appropriate counseling to prospective patients who are considering making such an important and personal decision.

Cosmetic Surgery: It’s not just for face
There are many procedures available to men and women considering cosmetic medical procedures. Here is a sample of some cosmetic procedures-

Arm Lifts

One of the most routinely satisfying procedures commonly performed by plastic surgeons is brachioplasty – reshaping the upper arm, from the underarm region to the elbow.

Eyelid surgery

Sagging eyes can be a very difficult problem to deal, and is often one of the first signs of facial aging, even in people as young as their thirties. Many women and men are frustrated after spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on creams to treat under-eye bags and circles, only to find out the solution as eyelid surgery.

Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a “tummy tuck,” is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall.

Augmentation mammoplasty

Augmentation mammoplasty, commonly known as Breast augmentation surgery, is a surgical procedure to enhance the fullness of a woman’s breast, improve the symmetry of the breasts and/or restore breast volume lost following pregnancy or weight loss.

Beware of specialist qualifications

One should be able to have confidence that the practitioner they choose for their cosmetic procedure has been appropriately trained in cosmetic surgery and is certified in the procedure and performs it regularly.

Your personal consultation

During your initial visit you should be able to get a good idea of what to expect from the surgery in the way of your results, discomfort involved, recovery time and any special aftercare that you may need. Be sure you follow any instructions that you may be given as to medications, diet and other preliminary steps needed.

There are many procedures available to men and women considering cosmetic medical procedures. Ensuring you choose the right one for you is a decision you should make together with your cosmetic surgeon. The decision to have or not have any type of cosmetic surgery is a crucial one, which should be taken carefully together with your certified trained surgeon.

Quest For Beauty Takes to Eyelid Surgery

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011
Do you feel your eyelids are usually droopy and saggy, portraying a tired look? You may be a candidate for Blepharoplasty. Blepharoplasty or cosmetic eyelid surgery can help you treat upper eyelids with excess, drooping skin, or eyes that look tired due to puffiness or bags.

What causes the problem?
  • Puffiness or swelling about the eyelids is produced by any one or more of three possible factors:
  • Weakened eyelid muscles (the orbicularis muscles)
  • Excessive fatty deposits about the eyeball produce bulges or bagginess
  • Excessive fluid accumulation about the eyes
Eyelid surgery, technically known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure –
  • To give a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you feel relaxed and pleased
  • To improve the symmetry of the eyes
  • To increase confidence and self-esteem
  • To restore the originality of the eyelids
  • To create a natural-appearing and attractive eyelids

Blepharoplasty before and after

Photographs are usually taken before and after surgery to plan the procedure and record your results. While examining blepharoplasty before and after photos, look for pictures of patients whose “before” photo resembles your current eyelid appearance and see if the “after” photo matches your idea of a positive surgical outcome.
How will you look?

After eyelid surgery, the usual comments you can expect are that “you look wonderful” or “have you been on a holiday?” Your eyes will look fresh and with a smoother improved eyelid contour, you will be better able to keep your eyes.
Everyone should look more alert and youthful. Cosmetic surgery performed in patients with realistic expectations can do wonders for self esteem and for self confidence.
Timing of Eyelid surgery

There is no particular age that is considered best for eyelid surgery. However, the best candidates for eyelid surgery are those who are physically healthy, psychologically stable and realistic about their expectations. Most are in their mid-thirties or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.
Preparing for Eyelid surgery

When you and your surgeon have the same expectations before eyelid surgery it makes the process less nerve-racking, and helps the surgeon know exactly what you are wanting out of the procedure.
Quality care with a professional eyelid surgeon

Taking time to think over the procedure, working with your eyelid surgeon will help you understand the nature of the problem as well as the most suitable options for treatment. Who knows, cosmetic eyelid surgery can turn out to be an opportunity to help you reconstruct the beauty that’s already there, underneath the bags and years of life.

Dr. Gutek: Making a Difference Through Plastic Surgery

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Although plastic surgery offers a wide array of cosmetic benefits, procedures can also be used to correct medical and physical conditions that may otherwise have a detrimental impact on an individual’s life. Our own Dr. E Philip Gutek has witnessed the impact of these surgeries first-hand as a participant in medical mission trips.

“I’ve been on 9 trips,” he says. “I’ve been to Romania seven times, India once and Ecuador. I take care of children who would not otherwise be taken care of—working with cleft lips and paletes, and a lot of burn injuries.”

Dr. Gutek is preparing to return to Romania in August, a country that holds a special place in his heart. “There’s an orphanage in Romania and I have a special child there that I’m taking care of,” he says. “Elaina is 8 years old and is Romano, which is another name for a gypsy. She was left somewhere and picked up by the orphanage.”

Through visits and regular updates, Dr. Gutek keeps in touch with Elaina, checking in on her well-being and learning more about her. He says “she does handstands, rides a skateboard and listens to Michael Jackson and dances. She draws pictures for me, and I take her a set of clothes when I go.”

Romania is also the site of Dr. Gutek’s first medical mission trip, an unexpected opportunity that left him seeking more opportunities in which to give back.

“I was working at a hospital, and one of the nurses needed someone to go to Romania,” he says. “Once you go on one of these mission trips, you keep thinking when you can go back.”

Dr. Gutek’s philanthropic work hasn’t only been noticed by the grateful patients he’s helped. He was recently honored with a Humanitarian Award for Service from the Medical Missions Foundation in recognition of his continuing service to those in need.

While stateside, Dr. Gutek continues his work at Associated Plastic Surgeons. A Canada native, Dr. Gutek trained in Kansas City at Saint Luke’s Hospital before returning to Canada to work with a general practitioner. He returned to Kansas City to complete training, and has been practicing here since 1977.

Although Dr. Gutek is experienced in a variety of plastic surgery procedures, he specializes in rejuvenation face lifts using a harmonic scalpel. He also enjoys the challenges presented by reconstructive surgery, and is also particularly interested in a newer technology called slim lipo, in which a laser is used to melt fat cells through small incisions.

“That’s one of the exciting things about plastic surgery,” he says. “It’s constantly evolving. Like with face lifts—they’re much less radical now, more diagnostic. We do less during the procedure, but I think we do a better job.”

Every day at the clinic brings a different challenge or situation, something Dr. Gutek says is one of the many benefits of his career.

“I enjoy everything about my job even though I’ve been in practice for a long time,” he says. “I’m eager for the next day and excited to make people feel good about themselves.”

The medical mission trips are also one of Dr. Gutek’s passions, and something he plans to continue for the foreseeable future. He “particulary likes” going to Ecuador, and is planning a trip next year to Honduras.

Eyelid Surgery…Improving the Window to Your Soul

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Our eyes have been called the “Windows to our soul”. So what happens when your “windows” are looking tired, droopy and not reflecting your inner-self?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a way to improve your appearance of upper and/or lower eyelids, giving you an invigorated appearance around your eyes making you look youthful and rested. Eyelid surgery can specifically treat loose or sagging skin that can disturb the natural look of the upper eyelid, take care of excess fatty deposits and/or bags under the eyes, and work on getting rid of excess skin and on the lower eyelids. If you are considering an eyelid procedure it is important to disclose any eye health issues you may have with your doctor.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery can:
  • * Offer dramatic improvement in the upper and lower eyelids and surrounding regions
  • * Enhance your entire facial look with one facial plastic surgery by combining your eyelid procedure with a facelift and neck lift
  • * Create a better-defined eyelid and smoothing the surrounding region results in an alert and rejuvenated appearance
  • * Treat bags under the eyes, aging of the lower eyelids, and puffiness in the upper eyelids

The procedure can take up to 1 to 3 hours for both eyelids and is normally an outpatient surgery. Patients may experience temporary tightness of the eyelids, swelling, bruising, burning, dryness, itching and excessive tearing up and sensitivity to light for the first few weeks. Giving yourself ample time to heal and regain normalcy is an important part of recovery. Talking with your doctor and understanding the expectations of healing is an important part of the surgery process.

Your eyelids may feel tight and sore and normal activities such as reading, wearing contacts or strenuous activities may take a few days or weeks, however any pain and discomfort can be controlled with oral pain medication, cold compresses and ointment. Risks can include temporary blurred or double vision, swelling and dry eyes. Make sure your doctor explains all risks associated with the procedure.

Being a healthy individual with realistic expectations and goals in mind is essential before deciding on Blepharoplasty. Asking questions with your surgeon and making sure you schedule adequate recovery time is important for the surgery to be a success. Recovery is a process and can take several weeks until fully healed. During the consultation it is important to work with your doctor and point out specifically where you see the trouble spots around your eyes and in detail, ask the doctor to explain what can be done to fix the problems.

Whn you and your doctor have the same expectations before surgery it makes the process less nerve-racking for you, and helps the doctor know exactly what you are wanting out of the procedure. And remember, eyelid surgery can correct certain conditions permanently; but you will continue to age naturally as we all do. Making sure you use sun protection including the use of sunscreen and sunglasses will help to maintain your results.

This can be your opportunity to help you reconstruct the beauty that’s already there, underneath the bags and years of life. Open the windows to your soul, and take a step to looking like the youthful person you are!
