Dr. E. Philip Gutek

The techniques used in plastic surgery are constantly evolving.

With more than 25 years of practice, Dr. E. Philip Gutek remains intrigued by his profession.
He is stimulated by the technical advances and innovations of medical science, and he is motivated by  the rewards of continuous learning that keeps him at the forefront of new technology and surgical techniques.
But most of all, he cares about the outcome of his daily work – the impact he has on his patients and their lives.

EDUCATION: Gutek has a medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine, in Canada. He completed his internship at St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was introduced to Kansas City. He practiced general medicine in Canada for two years before completing a general surgery residency also at St. Luke’s Hospital. He then trained in plastic surgery at the former Kansas City General Hospital.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION AND RECOGNITION: Gutek is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons.  He also is a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE:  Gutek and his wife have a son and daughter. He is an avid hockey fan and for quiet times, likes to go fishing, especially at the family retreat near Lake Michigan.
Gutek served on numerous medical missions to Romania and India, treating adults and children with congenital abnormalities and burn injuries.
His work as a plastic surgeon, a leader and a collaborator offers challenges and rewards – three-dimensional problem-solving, artistic design and precise technical skills. The reward is in the positive outcome in helping his patients.

Historically, a plastic surgeon has been characterized as an innovator who is able to carefully select and accept new ideas and synthesize these ideas into their practice. The dynamic surgical specialty has always been appealing to Dr. E. Philip Gutek.

Education

Originally from Saskatchewan, Canada, Gutek earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Saskatchewan. His post-graduate training as an intern and general surgeon was at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.

After his internship, Gutek worked as a general family practitioner for two years in Canada. His plastic surgery internship was completed at the former Kansas City General Hospital.

During his years as a surgeon, Gutek has evaluated the long-term results of various plastic surgery procedures. This experience has been invaluable in obtaining optimal results for patients wishing to maintain a more youthful and healthy appearance.

In addition to all aspects of aesthetic or commonly called plastic surgery, Gutek enjoys the challenges of reconstructive surgery, which is very important to achieving optimal results in cosmetic surgery.  Gutek has participating member of medical missions to Romania and India, treating underprivileged children with congenital abnormalities and burn injuries.

Certification

Gutek is an associate professor at Kansas University Medical Center, where he participates in the residency training program.

He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is licensed in Kansas, Missouri and Michigan.

Perspective

Gutek and his wife have a daughter and a son and are members of Saint Francis Xavier Church of Kansas City. Gutek is an avid hockey fan and enjoys spending time with his family at Lake Michigan.
